Fragments: Seeking Continuity

There is a beautiful simplicity in the invasive vines that wrap themselves around trees and branches. In spite of the dangers imposed by human development, the elegance and beauty in the natural world fights with undaunted purpose to survive. The sounds of birds, frogs and other creatures are beginning to fade, and some will disappear forever, but life will seek out the small cracks between assaults and will flourish in some altered states. As I walk through the woods, I’m drawn to notice the incidental patterns of intersecting branches, forming complex mazes, crisscrossing the forest floor and up tree trunks. Shadows, moving gently in their own rhythms, flow silently into the rivers of the woods. Shapes form and disappear and form again adapting and reacting to whatever forces are inflicted on forest life. Survival is not linear. Mysterious energy moves throughout and the flow of life is ever evolving.

Untamed Forest

Vines with quiet determination creep their way around trees and branches. It is the push pull of survival, a sign of the great energy that has formed earth’s landscape for eons- and will go on.

Forest life is charged. Created with technical elegance, the dynamic system of plants and trees is punctuated by the sounds of birds and animal calls.
Patterns of intersecting roots form intricate mazes of energy that pulse through crisscrossing branches and tree trunks and arc towards the sun with grace and fury.

Patterns of evening shadows, move gently in their own rhythms, flowing silently into the rivers of the woods. Shapes form, disappear and reshape, adapting and reacting to the wind.

Natural survival is non-linear. As industrial elements batter and beat the landscape to its core, there is an untamable counter force that never rests. The winds and waters of time will find and nourish new life from organisms buried deep in the earth and nourish them into something new and miraculous that is the flow of life everlasting.
